Caffè corretto: what are the most suitable liqueurs?
How many of us prefer to end our meals with a good cup of coffee? ☕
It must be said that it gives a touch of personality to the classic cup of espresso and also helps improve digestion.
ORIGIN
This drink is nicknamed by the English as Italian beverage and comes from the areas of northern Italy where, according to tradition, factory workers had the habit of adding a few drops of grappa to their coffee to protect themselves from the cold winter temperatures and warm up a bit.
From here, the habit of correcting coffee spread throughout the peninsula until it became a real tradition that varies from region to region.
From north to south of Italy there are different types of caffè corretto depending on the regions and the type of liqueur chosen 🥃
But what are the most famous “fixes” to try at least once in your life?
THE BEST LIQUEURS FOR A GOOD CORRECT COFFEE
🥃 The Moretta Fanese
Drunk by sailors and fishermen from the Marche region to warm up, it is a drink originating from the city of Fano (Marche) and also widespread in the surrounding areas.
The correction is an alcoholic mixture based on aniseed liqueur, rum and brandy and is also used as a digestive after meals or as an energizer for a strengthening afternoon break.
🥃 Livorno-style punch
It originates from Livorno and is prepared using concentrated coffee and fantasy rum made up of alcohol, sugar and dark caramel and sometimes flavoured with a rum essence.
Ponce should be drunk hot and is usually consumed after lunch or dinner;
🥃 Rexentìn (or Raxentìn) from Veneto
Resentìn derives from the Venetian dialect resentare , meaning to rinse.
It refers to the tradition of diluting with grappa what remains in the cup after drinking the corrected coffee which, in addition to cleaning the cup, enhances the aromas of the distillate used for the correction;
🥃 Anise
If in the North coffee is drunk with grappa, in the South (in Salento) coffee is spiked with anise, a liqueur with a flavour similar to sambuca due to its fresh aroma.
This tradition has led some bars to provide a mini bottle of anise tied to the counter where you can help yourself freely.
🥃 Sambuca
Finally, the caffè corretto that unites all of Italy: sambuca!
Coffee and sambuca give a balanced taste between sweet and bitter, between fresh and hot which in this period is just what is needed.
It can also be served with a coffee bean floating in the glass or with coffee powder on the surface.
